Using a self-built binaural microphone, I recorded the sound environment while walking along Damrak in Amsterdam. The work approaches sound as a spatial material shaped by bodily movement and urban context.
This work engages sound as a spatial and material phenomenon through the use of a self-constructed binaural microphone. While walking along Damrak in Amsterdam, I recorded the surrounding sound environment as it unfolded in relation to my moving body. The binaural recording technique captures sound as a situated and embodied experience, preserving spatial depth, directionality, and proximity as integral components of the work.
By recording while in motion, the work foregrounds listening as a performative act, where sound is shaped by bodily orientation, pace, and interaction with the urban environment. The resulting audio material functions not as a documentary representation of place, but as a spatial composition emerging from movement, attention, and acoustic perspective.
