In 1991, I made a work addressing the refusal of the Nordic countries to immediately recognize the independence of the Baltic states following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The sculpture consists of three male skiers skiing on the same ski, the figures suggest a forced consensus—movement dependent on collective hesitation rather than individual action.
The sculpture frames the end of the Cold War as a landscape of subzero consensus: a political climate where unity was declared, yet warmth and recognition were delayed.
