{"id":94,"date":"1997-11-15T22:11:15","date_gmt":"1997-11-15T21:11:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/dantommi.net\/MyWorks\/?p=94"},"modified":"2026-02-06T15:54:18","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T14:54:18","slug":"mother-earth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dantommi.net\/MyWorks\/mother-earth\/","title":{"rendered":"Mother Earth 1997"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I created this installation for the 195th anniversary exhibition celebrating the birth of Elias L\u00f6nnrot, compiler of the Finnish epic <em data-start=\"352\" data-end=\"362\">Kalevala<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The work centers on a historical sound recording of Oksena M\u00e4kiselk\u00e4, one of the many oral poets specializing in <em data-start=\"483\" data-end=\"494\">itkuvirsi<\/em>\u2014traditional Finnic lamentations performed through crying and sobbing. In this recording from 1921, she laments the harsh fate of Mother Earth.
