Quadraginta noctibus<\/em>, also referred to as Pulputin<\/em>, is a small-scale sound sculpture composed of a continuous water sound and a pulsating red light synchronized with the movement of the water. The installation unfolds as a self-sustaining system, emphasizing duration, repetition, and subtle variation rather than linear progression.
\n<\/p>\n

The title Quadraginta noctibus<\/em>\u2014Latin for \u201cforty nights\u201d\u2014references the biblical account of the flood, where forty days and forty nights signify prolonged immersion and transformation through water. This temporal reference functions as a conceptual frame, situating water as a continuous and time-shaping force.<\/p>\n

The name Pulputin<\/em> derives from the Finnish word for \u201cbubbling,\u201d foregrounding the sonic quality of the work and emphasizing sound as a material process characterized by repetition, micro-variation, and continuity.<\/p>\n

Engaging water as both material and sonic agent, the sculpture can be understood as an early articulation of concerns later developed in my artistic research on aqua<\/em>, where water operates as a medium for duration, continuity, and transformation. The work also reflects an ongoing commitment to sound as a primary artistic material and to listening as a mode of attentive engagement.<\/p>\n

The red light is flickering with the sound.<\/p>\n
