A site-specific work, 2003 – <\/em>An Installation for Sound and Sea<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In 2003, I created an installation in the wilderness of the municipality of Soten\u00e4s, on the west coast of Sweden. I dismantled an old birdhouse found on an island on the Finnish west coast called Cross Base\u2014an island where I grew up.<\/p>\n

Like a migratory bird, I carried the parts of the birdhouse to the Swedish west coast. There, I wrote a story about a fisherman\u2019s wife in the early 1950s who wanted to have a cross tattooed on her chest, dedicating her body to Christ. She and her husband lived in a small village near Soten\u00e4s.<\/p>\n

Sitting beside my sculpture on the edge of the cliff, one could look out over the endless sea and listen to the story through a small, solar-powered system with earphones.<\/p>\n
